Head Instructor Guro / Kru William Schultz
I started training in the Martial arts in late 1983 begining in Kickboxing and later moving to Wing Chun. In 1989, I stumbled across Leon Navaro training in the lower quad at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. Since that Fall day in 1989, I had been dedicated foremost to the Filipino Martial arts until the mid 90’s when I was introduced to Muay Thai. Later around 1998 – 99 I started training in the Thai weapons system of Krabi Krabong. The raw power and aggression of Muay Thai and Krabi Krabong combined with the flowing movements of the FMA’s, all highly effective, drew me in as a dedicated practitioner of the Filipino and Thai National martial arts. I am also a ranked instructor in Jeet Kune Do Concepts but have chosen not to actively teach the system....though I do still pull from it in my own personal style.
My goal is to spread the Filipino and Thai National Fighting Arts and to develop top notch students, fighters, and instructors who can pass along, back up, and represent these systems with exceptional skill and honor.
One thing I like to make very clear is that I am NOT seminar trained. All of my training has been private or small group training with my instructors on a daily or weekly basis. The exception is my training with Maginoo Mandala Tim Waid. I fly to him or fly him up to train with me, again, one on one or small group training.

Systems taught at Mongrel Combative Arts in East Greenwich, Rhode Island:
Muay Thai / Muay-Lao Thai Boxing Thailand's national sport, Muay Thai traces its roots back before recorded time, when it became the combat method of choice for the armies of Royal Siam (now Thailand). Long acknowledged as one of the most brutal martial arts in existence, Muay Thai is rapidly gaining worldwide recognition as an ultra-effective method of personal self-defense. Utilizing high intensity training methods, Thai boxers obtain incredibly powerful kicks unequaled in other martial arts disciplines. Thai fighters also excel in the use of elbows and knees at close quarters. Standing grappling, also called the “clinch” is also an integral part of Muay Thai training.
Krabi-Krabong The ancient art of Krabi-Krabong is the original military Thai weapons system that Muay Thai descended from. A system of open-field weaponry combat that uniquely combines aggressive power, speed, and intensity, combined with strategically used kicks and knees strikes. this art focuses mainly on hand-held weapons techniques, specifically the Krabi (sword), Plong (quarter-staff), ngao (halberd), daap sawng meu (a pair of swords held in each hand), mai-son (knife), and mai sun-sawk (a pair of shield-like clubs strapped to each arm). My training in Krabi-Krabong gives me the rare ability to train and teach Muay Thai from the perspective of its origins in Krabi-Krabong through “Muay Kachuek” (Old style) to today’s sport version.
Pekiti-Tirsia/Filipino Fighting Systems The main Filipino system taught at Mongrel Combative Arts is Pekiti-Tirsia Kali. Pekiti-Tirsia is a close-quarter, in-fighting combat system against multiple opponents based on the use of the Blade. Pekiti-Tirsia is a system of complete strategies and tactics utilizing all close quarters weaponry, at all ranges, that provide protection from strikes and attacks, destruction of opponent’s weapons, and domination of any combat or self defense situation. I also pull from my extensive training in Arnis De Mano & Daga Say Daga, as well as Doce Pares/Eskrido, Tobosa Kali Eskrima, and Lacoste-Inosanto Kali to provide the student with a fully rounded and effective curriculum for personal protection, Law Enforcement, and Military training.
